A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of following a 10-year-old girl into a supermarket toilet and raping her.
Warwickshire Police said the child was shopping with her mother at a Sainsbury's store in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire at the time and was said to be unharmed but extremely distressed by the incident.
A 16-year-old boy from south Warwickshire was arrested in the early hours of today on suspicion of rape and remains in police custody.
Investigating officers are urgently seeking a woman who may have witnessed the incident, which happened between 7pm and 7.25pm yesterday at the Sainsbury's store in Shires Retail Park.
Police believe she came into the toilets as the assault was taking place and may have vital information about the offence.
Officers are appealing to anyone who went into the toilets between 7pm and 7.30pm or who saw anyone acting suspiciously nearby to contact police.
